Shannon Clinic
A new medium secure unit in Knockbracken, Ireland.
Devereux Architects and Ostick + Williams designed this facility which was won through a design competition. It was Northern Ireland’s first medium secure unit.
It provides a service for patients in a safe and therapeutic environment. The facility includes an Intensive Care / Assessment ward, Acute ward and Rehabilitation ward. Each ward has access to an enclosed garden to the rear and links to a cross circulation corridor, which provides access to the recreation facilities, staff support offices and reception.
The building form is predominately single storey to the rear and the staff support and office accommodation to the front of the site is two-storey.
The integration of design with imaginative landscaping and carefully selected artwork proved highly successful within this scheme. As the first development within the rejuvenated Knockbracken Park healthcare campus, this project set the standard for other developments to follow.
