Campus Expansion, University College Cork
As part of a Campus Expansion programme at University College Cork, Ireland, PM worked on several projects with a combined capital value of approximately €145m.
Environmental Research Institute: This project involved the provision of a new building to house UCC's Environmental Research Institute (ERI) which consists of a group of multi-disciplinary environmental researchers. The new 2,800m m² building contains a number of labs, offices, reading rooms and seminar rooms. PM's role was project manager.
Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Clinical Therapies: The university developed its Health Sciences Complex on a site containing the historically significant Brookfield House. This building was preserved and incorporated into the development. The complex includes educational facilities and faculty offices, a library, restaurant and a new crèche. PM was project manager and was responsible for the overall management of the design team, as well as project scheduling and cost control.
Information Technology Building: UCC's new Information Technology Building houses computer labs, teaching rooms, auditoria, offices and restaurants in a 14,000 m² facility. PM was responsible for Mechanical and Electrical design for this State-of-the-art development.
Fast-Track Student Accommodation: PM was part of a consortium involved in a Design-Build contract for a new student accommodation apartment building for UCC. PM’s responsibilities included Civil and Structural Engineering and Mechanical and Electrical services.
Tyndall National Research Institute: PM were the architects and lead consultants for a photonics research laboratory in the listed Lee Maltings complex which is home to Tyndall National Research Institute. The new facility is housed in the listed shell of the Maltings Building. The design team were required to meet the conservation requirements of the old building exterior while providing a high-tech modern facility internally.
School of Pharmacy: PM were mechanical and electrical engineers for a State-of-the-art Pharmacy School located on the main campus. PM's design solution incorporated several innovative sustainable energy features.
